Agnes K. Maakstad, 102 of Leland, died peacefully Saturday, February 3 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland with Lay Minister Rose Visser officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will take place in Forest Home Cemetery in Leland, Iowa.

Agnes K. Maakestad was born on a farm southwest of Lake Mills, Iowa on the 20th of June, 1915 to Oscar and Marie (Johnson) Dahlen.
She attended Lake Mills Schools and was baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills.
Agnes was married to Omer Maakestad and together they made their home in Leland, Iowa where she lived in that same house for 65 years.
She had one daughter, Joan Elizabeth, who was born July 9th, 1935.
Agnes worked in various jobs throughout her life and was instrumental in starting the hot lunch program for the Leland and Forest City schools.
She attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church for many years and served in various capacities. She loved her church, and loved doing her “church-work”, as she called it. She participated in many community activities and took great joy in serving others. Her positive attitude was treasured by her family and friends.
She was a wonderful cook and baker, baking almost every day and sharing it with others. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed it.
Her strong and consistent faith in God was an inspiration and strength for her many family members, and her example of Christ’s love was evident throughout her life.
Agnes entered Good Samaritan Center of Forest City in 2008. She loved and was loved back by many caring staff over the years there and was known for always seeing the ‘sunny side of life’. Agnes passed away at the Forest City Good Samaritan Center at the age of 102 on February 3, 2018
She is survived by her daughter, Joan; her eight granchildren, Diane Charlson (Jerry), Danny Finer (Ann), Debra Remmers (Les), Dori Finch (Duane), Dawn Margro, Denise Bauer (Scott), Daris Finer (Rhonda), Darcy Swearingen (Jay); as well as almost fifty great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Omer, her parents, and her five siblings.
