Albert Baker, age 82 of Forest City, died Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. Memorial service will be Tuesday, November 14 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Lee Laaveg officiaitng. Inurnment will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Monday, November 13 at the funeral home.
Albert Baker was born in Britt, Iowa on August 8, 1924, the son of John and Jenny (Abbas) Baker. He received his education in schools in Crystal Lake and Hayfield, graduating from high school in Hayfield. He was very active in sports, especially baseball, softball and basketball. Albert was the pitcher for the Buttertop Semi-Pro Softball Team as well as many other local teams.
On June 3, 1943, he married Jeannette Hanson in Fairmont, Minnesota. The couple farmed southeast of Forest City their entire married lives before retiring from farming and moving into town in the spring of 2000. Albert was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he ushered for over 20 years.
He loved his life farming, enjoyed country music and treasured time spent with his family. Albert passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at the age of 82 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Baker of Forest City, and his children: Eugene Baker and wife Geraldine of Garner, Iowa; Carolyn Krogmeier of Chester, Virginia and Candi Noteboom and husband Terry of Pella, Iowa. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Neil Baker of Mission , Kansas; Mark (Wendy) Baker of Sioux City, Iowa; Hope (Steve) Kimble of Shakopee, Minnesota; Suzanne (Roy) Reynolds of Chester, Virginia; Timothy Noteboom of Sheldon, Iowa and Michael Noteboom of Pella, Iowa, five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Helen Smidt of Britt, Iowa and Emma Appelhons of Thompson, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Peter, Edward, Ben and George and sisters Jennie Hoefker, Ann Seifert and Fann Katuine.
