Albert L. Book, age 86 of Forest City, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 21 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, March 20 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Albert L. Book was born on a farm in rural Forest City, Iowa on June 20, 1919, the son of Otto and Eda (Martinson) Book. He received his education in rural schools near his home.
On October 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Branstad. The couple made Forest City their home throughout their married lives.
Albert began working as a bricklayer for Bartleson Construction. He farmed for a time before beginning work at Winnebago Industries. He retired at age 62 and for the past 24 years has worked recycling scrap iron and other materials. His hands were never still ñ Albert was a hard working man his whole life.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and being around family. He enjoyed camping and had worked part-time at the Crystal Lake Park. He bought and sold tractors as well as collected model tractors and built many hayracks over the years.
Albert is survived by his six children: Lanne Book & wife Patty of Klemme; Duane (Snookie) Book & wife Mary Lou of Fertile; Gary Book & wife Pat of Garner; Patty Brighton of Forest City; Karen Brock & husband Rickie of Forest City and Nancy Kabe & husband Roger of Northwood.; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers and a sister: Ole Book of Forest City; Del Book & wife Wanda of Forest City; Harold Book & wife Marlys of Fertile and Violet Charlson & husband Ray of Forest City.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, sisters Luella and Emily, brothers Floyd, Gus and Clarence, an infant brother, Everett and a great-grandson, Michael Brooks.
