FOREST CITY - Allan G. Hanna, age 80 of Forest City, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Rodd Hopp officiating. Inurnment will be at Grant Township Cemetery in rural Woden, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City IA 50436.

Allan Gene Hanna was born at the Forest City Hospital in Forest City, Iowa on April 30, 1929, the son of Gilbert and Carrie (Skilbred) Hanna. He was baptized and confirmed at Grant Church and attended local rural school. He went to Buffalo Center High School where he also played football.

Allan liked to hunt, fish and trap. His hobbies were woodworking and wood-carving, including an 18 foot totem pole.

In 1950 he married Anne Madson and lived on a family farm near Woden, raising livestock and crops. Allan also was an agent for Farmers Mutual Insurance for many years. He worked at the voting precincts for many years and was on the Grant Church Board. He retired from farming in about 1999.

He and Anne moved to Forest City in 2005. Allan enjoyed his family and socializing at the Forest City YMCA, at church and with other woodworkers in the area.

Survivors include his wife Anne of Forest City; his son Paul Hanna of Ankeny, his step-children Carol Neal of Woodward and John Koehler of Forest City; one grandchild Suzanne; six great-grandchildren, Matt, Alison, Paul, Samantha, Piper and Paige; a sister JoAnn Beers of Tipton, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter Patricia and grandson Mike.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Forest City YMCA or Forest City Public Library.
