Ann M. Steenhard

Ann M. Steenhard, 76, of Mason City, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Concord Care Center in Garner.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral chapel.

Ann Marie (Counsell) Steenhard was born January 21, 1949 in the District of Columbia. When she was three years old, she moved to Osage with her parents, Ernest “Carlin” and Mary (Murray) Counsell. She attended Osage Community Schools. On December 23, 1968 she married Alan Steenhard. Alan and Ann lived their entire married life in Mason City. Ann worked at Marshall and Swift in Mason City for several years. She then earned her CNA certificate and worked at the Heritage Care Center and Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City until her retirement. She enjoyed taking care of the many residents over the years and found this work very fulfilling. In 2016, Alan and Ann moved to Kentucky Ridge Assisted Living in Mason City. After Alan passed away in 2017, Ann moved to Country Meadows Assisted Living in Mason City and in 2024 Concord Care Center in Garner.

One of Ann’s lifelong enjoyments was crocheting blankets for family and friends. Alan and Ann also loved to go to auctions and collect antiques and toys. Her dogs and cats held a very special place in her heart her whole life.

Ann is survived by her two sisters, Nancy Goebel and Susan (Kenny) Hyke; brother, Michael (Penny) Counsell; sister–in-law, Barbara (Jerry) Kropp; brothers-in-law, Vernon (Carol) Steenhard, Wayne (Donna) Steenhard, Warren (Ann Schaffer) Steenhard, and Mark (Debra) Steenhard; nieces and nephews, Scott Richey, Charmaine Gay, Jennifer (Joseph) Coder, Jeremy Bass, Angela Goebel, Nina Counsell, Matthew (Sara) Counsell, Julie (Wes) Rains, Scott (Brooke) Steenhard, Brenda (Grant) Anderson, Shelby (Alana) Steenhard, Haylee Miller, Cade, Colt and Rhett Steenhard. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alan; her parents, Carlin and Mary Counsell; parents-in-law, Engelard and Phyllis Steenhard; sister, Sharon Counsell; brother–in-law, Jerry Goebel; sister-in-law, Dawn Steenhard; nephew, Ryan Kropp; and niece, Renae Kropp.
