Arden Harris Midtgaard

Arden H. Midtgaard, 92, of rural Fertile, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Fertile Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Halverson officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. Forest City, IA.

Burial will be held in Elim Lutheran Cemetery in rural, Fertile.

In lieu, of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, Fertile Lutheran Church, or the Donor’s Choice.

Arden Harris Midtgaard was born January 21, 1924 in rural Fertile, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Selma (Domholdt).

He was married to Fern Seglem on December 2, 1945 in Fertile, Iowa and to this union, four children were born.

Arden had a passion for farming and he was proud to be a steward of the land. He loved collecting antique tractors and cars; also toy die-cast farm machinery.

Arden loved the Lord and was a lifetime member of Fertile Lutheran Church which his grandfather helped to build in 1895.

Arden served on many boards throughout the years including The Federal Land Bank, Hanlontown Elevator Board, Church Council, and Cerro Gordo County Extension Council.

He is survived by his wife, Fern Midtgaard of rural Fertile; children, Cindy (Russell) Schubert of Britt, Arlyn (Lila) Midtgaard of rural Fertile, Connie (Mark) Hallam of Mankato, and Vicky (Larry) Vogl of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Mary) Midtgaard of Mason City, and Maynard (Madelyn) Midtgaard of Northwood.

Arden was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Midtgaard; his mother, Selma (Domholdt) Midtgaard; his adopted mother, Martha (Storm) Midtgaard; his sister, Marian Midtgaard and great granddaughter, Vivian Beadle.
