LELAND - Arlin L. Zingg, age 85 of Leland, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Mercy Medical center North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Center Lutheran Church in rural Scarville, Iowa. Burial will be at West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Leland, Iowa with military graveside rites by Forest City American Legion Post 121.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, August 25th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City Iowa and an hour prior to service at the church.
Arlin L. Zingg was born on a farm near Leland, Iowa on July 20, 1924, the son of Grover and Helen (Peterson) Zingg. He attended rural school near his home and graduated from Leland High School in 1942.
Arlin served with the US Army during WW II. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to the area. He began farming with his brother Dale in 1948.
On April 16, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ruth Okland at Center Lutheran Church. The couple lived on the Peterson home place near Leland, the family farm since 1884. Arlin loved farming and treasured every day he could be out working.
Arlin was a pilot and enjoyed flying his Piper Super Cruiser on short trips visiting friends and to attend flight breakfasts. He liked to golf and spend time with his golfing buddies. Arlin was a meticulous woodworker, building pieces with a eye for perfect form and finish.
He was a member of Center Lutheran Church where he had served as Treasurer and a member of the American Legion Post 121 of Forest City.
Arlin is survived by his wife Ruth, his brother, Dale, three sisters, Arleen Sorenson, Mavis Holt and Ruth Charleson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
