Avis Sylvia Alm

Avis Sylvia Alm, 80, of Garner, formerly of Forest City, died Friday, September 9, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Madison Cemetery in Forest City.

Memorials may be directed to the Avis Alm memorial fund in care of the family.

Avis Sylvia Alm was born May 21, 1936 in Forest City the daughter of Abraham and Gertrude (Peterson) Olson. She attended and graduated from Forest City Schools.
She was married to Luther Alm on June 3, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, to this union three children were born, Linda, Mark and Cindy.
Luther and Avis made their home on a farm northwest of Forest City their entire married lives. Avis and Luther enjoyed going fishing up north every year with friends.

Avis was a member of the Red Hat Society, Card Club, Birthday Club and was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Avis is survived by her children, Linda (Bob) Hoveland of Miller, Mark Alm of Garner and Cindy (Dale) Lipp of Nora Springs; grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha and fiancé Cole Davison and Hunter; great- grandson, Lane; brothers, Carl (Dollie) Olson of Clear Lake and Palmer Olson of California; brother-in-law, Dale Haes and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luther in 2009; sister, Arlene Haes and sister-in-law, Lorraine Olson.
