Betty Jean Stefans was born June 27, 1928, in Sioux Falls, SD to Walter Adam and Ada Fae (Kibbey) Stefans. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1946. Upon graduation, Betty enrolled at Iowa State University and met William E. Berg who swept her off her feet on a blind date. They became a couple and later were united in marriage on September 11, 1948, in Des Moines.
The couple made their home in Forest City and was blessed with three daughters, Stephanie, Judy, and Cheri. She was a member of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Church in Forest City. Betty enjoyed dancing to all types of music, bowling, golfing, and gathering with friends and occasionally a trip to Prairie Meadows. She loved the holidays and took great pride in preparing the family meals and baking everyone’s favorite holiday treats. Most of all, Betty had a heart of gold and was always caring for others and wanting to put them first.
Betty will be missed deeply by her daughters, Stephanie Murphy, Judy (Dick) Rue, and Cheri Berg all of Ankeny; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Berg, and a sister, Marjorie Wright.
Betty’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Taylor House Hospice for the exceptional care and love given to Betty and their family during her time there.
