Bob D. Holland 82, of Forest City passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 19, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Doug Snyder and Pastor Eric Weaver officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City. Interment will be held in First Baptist Cemetery/Oakland in Forest City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Good Samaritan Van Fund.
Bob was born April 18, 1932, son of Elmer and Alta (Kuns) Holland. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1951. He married Zudavee Smith on June 5, 1952. To the union, four children were born.
Bob farmed many years in the Forest City area, also custom harvesting from Texas to North Dakota. Over the next years he held jobs with the Winnebago County Shop, Holland House Moving, and later starting his own repair business “Bob Holland Auto Repair”.
On October 30, 1981, Bob married Carmen Fredrickson. To this union, Bob was blessed with three additional daughters. Bob and Carmen enjoyed traveling to many places like Colorado, Alaska, and Hawaii. Hot Springs, Arkansas was a special destination spot they looked forward to during the winter months.
Bob enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. You could always expect a smile and a twinkle in his eye when he saw his grandchildren.
Bob enjoyed serving his community. He served 17 years with the Forest City Ambulance Service and he took great pride in helping others. Great importance in his life was serving the Lord and sharing his joy of the Savior with others. His prayers were that you all would come to love the Lord like he did. Bob was honored to serve in many capacities of his church. He will be remembered by his firm handshake and his friendly welcoming smile.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Carmen of 33 years; children, Pam Julius (Rodney Claude)of Dows, IA, Phyllis Holland of Catawissa, MO, Anthony Holland of Duluth, MN, Darla Beck of Forest City, IA, Dawn (John) Brock of Forest City, IA, Cynthia Simms of Baltimore, MD; sister, Wanda Larson of Kiron, IA and brother-in-law, Farrell Reese of Clinton, IA.
He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Bob is preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Alta; sisters, Darlene Markson and Patsy (Norma) Reese; one son, Vance Holland; grandsons, Kiley Vance Holland and Branden Brock and brothers-in-law, Stanley Markson and Lewellyn Larson.
