Calvin A. Baumgartner, 74, of Garner, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt with Fr. Andrew Marr officiating. Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, March 31st at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with a Scriptural wake service at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Calvin “Butch” Andrew Baumgartner, the son of Calvin C. and Mildred (Schied) Baumgartner, was born January 2, 1951, in Forest City. Cal grew up in California and moved to Garner at the age of eight. He was raised by his stepparents, Dale and Gail Linahon. Cal graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1969. After high school, he worked at Schoneman’s Gas Station and K and S Chevrolet in Garner. He retired from Winnebago Industries in Forest City after 39 years of employment in the specialty division. On August 29, 1975, he married Jeanette Ptacek at the Garner United Methodist Church. They lived in Garner until 1978 when they moved to their home southwest of Garner where they raised their son, Troy. Cal enjoyed camping, playing cribbage, and watching westerns on TV. He was known for his dedication to supporting his wife, Jan, and consistently sought to create happiness and comfort in their home. His passion extended to gardening, where he took great pleasure in cultivating flowers along his sidewalk and caring for his pets, particularly his cat, Snowball.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt where he shared his love of music as a member of the choir.
Cal is survived by his wife, Jeanette “Jan” of Garner; son, Troy (Heather) Baumgartner of Rowan; many siblings including two special sisters, Mary Jane (Steve) Gouge and Nellie (Bruce) Mastin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce (Gary) Meyer, Karen (Dennis) Furness, Gerald (Deb) Ptacek, Kris (Bill) Christie and Jeff (Debbie) Ptacek; many nieces and nephews; and good friend, Dennis Schaefer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepparents, Dale and Gail Linahon.
