FOREST CITY - Carmen Monsen, 73, of Garner, formerly of Forest City, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with Pastor Greg Anderson and Pastor Brian Lund officiating.

Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM, Monday, June 24, 2013 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Carmen Jean Monsen, the daughter of Lee and Mae (Anderson) Wessels, was born March 8, 1940 on a farm near Thompson, IA. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson and was a devout follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The first few years of school she went to country schools and graduated in 1958 from Thompson High School. On September 24, 1960 Carmen was united in marriage to Eugene (Gene) Monsen.

Carmen worked at the Thompson Produce, a factory in Wells, MN, Deluxe in Lake Mills, and House of Sweets in Forest City.

Carmen enjoyed camping, walking, writing letters, taking pictures, sports, and spending time with family and friends (especially her children and grandchildren.)

Carmen is survived by her children, Pam (Larry) Gapp, and Brian Monsen both of Forest City; her grandchildren, Amber (David) Ossenmacher of St. Petersburg, FL, Nick (Megan) Monsen of Buffalo Center, Josh (Amber) Gapp of Kearney, NE, Zach Adams of Mason City, Justin (Tiffany) Gapp of Titonka, Zach Monsen of Forest City, Ross Monsen of Mason City, Jacob Gapp of Forest City, and Hallie Monsen of Mason City. Carmen was blessed with three great grandchildren, Cole Ossenmacher, Abigail Gapp, and Owen Gapp. She was also survived by three brothers, Duane Wessels, Larry (Linda) Wessels, Roger (Beverly) Wessels; two sisters, Delores (Roger) Hanna, and Cheryl (Paul) Beenken; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ward; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene (Gene) Monsen (December 22, 1993); her parents, Lee and Mae Wessels; her in-laws, Martin Sr. and Bertha Monsen; sisters in infancy, Donna Fay and Rose Mary; sister, Betty Michaelson; two sister-in-laws; two brothers-in-law; and nephew Kevin Hanna.
