FERTILE -- Carroll Torkelson, age 69 of Fertile, died Thursday, December 14, 2006. Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Robert Snitzer, pastor at Pilot Knob Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ellington Township Cemetery in rural Forest City. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, December 18 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service at the church.
Carroll Gene Torkelson was born on a farm west of Forest City, Iowa on March 14, 1937, the son of Clarence and Othelia Torkelson. He received his education in Fertile schools.
He served in the US Army Reserves from 1960-1966. He married Linda Hoffman in 1964. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Carroll worked for Forester, Hancock County and most recently for Holland Construction. He enjoyed attending sales & auctions, loved old cars and tractors and could spend hours visiting with friends over coffee. He liked all kinds of ìcrittersî and had a special way with animals.
Carroll was a very social man who liked sharing a laugh and a joke with friends and treasured time spent with his extended family.
He is survived by his children: Melody (Scott) Soldwisch of Forest City and Seannon Torkelson of Leland. Also surviving are his siblings: Margie Sogard of Ames, Bernice Voelker of Charles City, Ronald (Lucille) Torkelson, Leslie (Paulette) Torkelson, Roger Torkelson, Wayne Torkelson and Marsha (Mark) Brunsvold, all of Forest City; sister-in-law Janice Torkelson of Albert Lea and many nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence Junior and a sister, Margie Helen and a nephew, Hollis Torkelson, nieces Lisa Tate and Debra & LaRae Torkelson.
