FOREST CITY - C. Beatrice "Bea" Riekena, age 97 of Forest City, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service at the church.
Clara Beatrice "Bea" Riekena was born on February 5, 1914 in Moorland, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Bertina (Haugland) Hauge. As a young child, she moved with her family to Leland, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at West Prairie Lutheran Church near Leland and received her education at Burnap Country School near her home.
Bea cared for elderly people in their homes. She also waitressed at the Bungalow Café for a time as well as working at the "Palace of Sweets". On August 25, 1940 she was united in marriage to G.G. "Dutch" Riekena at West Prairie Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Forest City where they owned and operated a Mobil Gas Station together. When Dutch took a job as a rural mail carrier, Bea became a homemaker.
Bea was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in the Sarah Circle and WELCA. She was also a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to bake and always looked forward to going for coffee with her friends. Bea dearly loved her family and treasured time spent with them.
She is survived by two brothers and a sister: Bertrin (Marcella) Hauge of Lake Mills; Arnold (Helen) Hauge of Fertile and Irene Eide of Leland and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Julia Thompson, a brother who died in infancy, Carl Bertrin Hauge, and two brothers, Abel and Byron Hauge.
