GARNER - Dale E. Maley, 82, of Garner died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 6th at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Rev. Justin Asche officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M., Sunday at the United Presbyterian Church and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dale E. Maley, the son of Lowell and Esther (Hand) Maley, was born September 29, 1931 at Proctor, Colorado. He attended school at Sydney, Nebraska and graduated from Ventura High School. Following high school, he worked for various farmers in the area. On March 25, 1951 he married Helene Harbison at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. They lived in the Garner area all of their married life. Dale was employed in Garner at Harbison Grocery Store, the Roller Mills, Garner Creamery and the Garner-Hayfield Community School District for 32 years as the Bus Barn Mechanic and Bus Driver. He enjoyed horseback riding, kids, tinkering, camping and being on the go.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and an usher.
Dale is survived by his wife, Helene, of Garner; two daughters, Kathy (Tom) Murray of Iowa City and Julie (Maj Ret Kevin) Larkin of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Angela, Adam and Wade Murray and Jasa (Jacob) Clos and Jessica (Michael) Clark; eight great-grandchildren, Tristan, Cierra, Barrett, Holden, Nicholas, Bella, Ruby and Marley; a brother, Doug Maley of Garner; two sisters, Doris (Chuck) Earles of Britt and Donna (Tim) Corrick of Oklahoma City, OK; a sister-in-law, Irene Maley of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Dale Maley in 1967; and a brother, Dean Maley.
