David M. Benson, 71, of Forest City, died peacefully, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rod Hopp of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial of cremains will take place in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in David’s name.
David Mark Benson was born February 24, 1946 in Leland, Iowa the son of Robert and Katherine “Jessie” (Rollefson) Benson. He attended Forest City Schools, graduating in 1964. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. He was drafted into the United States Army in November of 1965 and was medically discharged on January 21, 1966.
David started working as a carpenter for Dick Thompson, learning carpentry skills. He then went to work for John Hill Construction for many years before starting his own construction business in 1974. He built many beautiful homes for families throughout North Central Iowa. His favorite part was the design work, intricate and creative finishes, always working hard to please the homeowners.
David loved to golf, and enjoyed watching it on T.V., liked watching the Hawkeye and Cyclone sports teams, even though he has been disappointed with the basketball records this season. He was the teller of many good jokes, often laughing to himself before finishing the punch line.
He is survived by his brothers, Lynn (Marcia) Benson, Randi Benson, Steven (Susan) Benson; sister, Lori (Brian) Tomasek; nephews, Sheldon, Travis, Aaron, Logan, Coltn and Hunter Benson; aunts, Marjorie Anderson, Dorothy Etzen and Julianne Tosel, many cousins, great nieces and nephews.
