Delores V. Gilbert

GARNER – Delores V. Gilbert, 93, of Garner died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 27th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 P.M., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 2:45 P.M. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Delores Viola Gilbert, the daughter of Edward and Regina (Kern) Breitkreutz, was born October 28, 1923 in Goodrich, North Dakota. She graduated from high school in Tripp, South Dakota. On August 13, 1948, she was married to William “Bill” Gilbert in Tripp. In 1951, they moved to Garner where they raised their six children. Delores worked as a cook and server in the lunch program at Garner-Hayfield Community Schools until her retirement. In July of 2014, she moved to Prairie View Apartments. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cross-stitching, watching soap operas and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML and was a lifetime member of the Garner VFW Auxiliary.

Delores is survived by her five children, Larry (Pat) Gilbert of Slater, Willie (Beth) Gilbert of Princeton, MO, Kim Gilbert (friend, Tally Albertson) of Garner, Rick (Diane) Gilbert of Garner and Jolene Howie of Garner; son-in-law, Jeff Howie of Garner; nine grandchildren and their families, Angi (Steve) Schelich and their daughter, Lily, Nick (Christine) Gilbert and their two children, Colby and Milo, Stephanie Gilbert, Mindy Sue Gilbert (Robert), Adam (Sara) Clark and their son, Aidan, Jeni (Justin) Porter and their three children, Maddie, Luke and Jake, Mike (Samantha) Gilbert and their three children, Taylor, Lucy and Lincoln, Billy (Angie) Howie, Jesse (Shannon) Howie and Morgan Howie; two great grandchildren arriving in July; and a sister, Doris Winter of Longmont, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill, February 12, 2001; son, David in 1976; two granddaughters, Maggie Mae Howie and Emily Clark; two brothers; and three sisters.
