Donald M. Larson, 87, of Livermore, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, January 11th at Lentz Funeral Home, 407 4th St. in Livermore. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Friday. Cataldo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Merlyn Larson, the son of Loyd and Helen (Clancy) Larson, was born December 16, 1936, near Badger, Iowa. He graduated from Lu Verne High School in 1955 and Iowa State University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in animal science. On August 12, 1960, he married Eunice Hueneman at Peace Reformed Church. They lived on a grain and cattle farm east of Livermore all of their married life. Don enjoyed farming with his son and grandsons. His greatest joy was serving the Lord Jesus Christ and seeing his children and grandchildren grow up in the same faith.
He was a member of Peace Reformed Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, and was treasurer of Covenant East Classis for many years. He also served on the Lu Verne school board, W & H Co-op Oil board, Livermore Elevator board, and the Humboldt County Cattlemen’s Association. He also served his country in the National Guard.
Don is survived by his wife, Eunice; four children: Sarah Larson of Des Moines, Liz (Dave) Schenk of Olathe, KS, John (Caroline) Larson of Hardy, and Sonja (Mike) Nop of Huxley; 16 grandchildren: Joshua Schenk, Kirstin (Jon) Huls, Erika Schenk, Anna Schenk, Jacob (Tanya) Larson, Luke (Marissa) Larson, Jed Larson, Levi (Karibeth) Larson, Clint Larson, Jack Larson, Gavin Nop, Katherine Nop, Victor Nop, Vanessa Nop, Johan Nop, and Edmund Nop; six great-grandchildren; his sister Blythe Edge of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Larson of Algona and Abigail (Robert) Jacobsen of Belmond; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Eunice's parents; sister, Carolyn Larson; brothers, Marion Larson and Gerald Larson; sisters-in-law, Miriam Peter, Lois Howell, Rachel Schumpp, and Nancy Larson; and brothers-in-law, Edwin Edge, Stanley Peter, and Gerald Howell.
