FERTILE – Doris Hammon Novak, 83, of Fertile died Saturday (May 22, 2010) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at Fertile Lutheran Church with David Halverson, lay minister, officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery near Fertile.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Doris Mary Hammon Novak, the daughter of Samuel and Gertrude (Nuehring) Hammon, was born November 21, 1926 on a farm east of Garner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1944 and then helped her family on the farm. On March 12, 1947 she was married to Henry Novak at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Britt area until 1958 when they moved to their farm at Fertile. Doris was always willing to lend a hand to neighbors and friends that needed help. She enjoyed her family and gardening, especially her flowers.
She was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church, Mary Circle, Fertile Garden Club, a neighborhood birthday club and was a past 4 – H leader. She also was an avid Hawkeye and Viking fan.
Doris is survived by her three children, Ronald (Deb) Novak of Forest City, Sharen (Larry) Rieffer of Forest City and Gary Novak of Fertile; a granddaughter, Amy Rieffer of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; brothers, Wayne and Lynn Hammon; and sister, Lois Blakewell.
