FOREST CITY - Douglas E. "Vern" Kuhn, age 49 of Forest City, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in mid-August.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Shannon Pascual officiating.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service.
The inurnment will be a private family service held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winnebago, Minnesota.
Douglas Eugene Kuhn was born in Blue Earth, MN on February 14, 1959, the son of Dale and Betty (Ihle) Kuhn. He received his education in Blue Earth and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1978. He worked at Red Owl in Blue Earth for several years.
He moved to Wells, MN and began working at Swift and also on the farm for Loren Bidne in Kiester, MN. In 1995 Vern began working for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, moving to town several years later. From day one, a co-worker said he looked like a "Vern" and the name stuck. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed watching racing on TV.
Doug loved spending time with his son Jacob and enjoyed a cup of strong coffee while visiting with friends.
Doug is survived by his son Jacob R. Kuhn of Forest City, his mother, Betty Kuhn Ankeny and husband Buss of Blue Earth, MN and five siblings: Alice Telander (Rory) of Laramie, WY; Ken Kuhn (Rosie)of Stewartville, MN; Cheri Martin (Richard) of Moorhead, MN; Koni Preston (Norm) of Mapleton, MN; John Kuhn (Mary Jo) of Blue Earth, MN and very dear friends Topher and Stephanie Tackman of Forest City. Also surviving are many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Doug was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Dale Kuhn, a nephew Brent Martin, a niece Tristan Kuhn and sister-in-law Connie Kuhn.
The family wishes memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
