SWEA CITY - Earl C. Kvamsdale, 89, of Swea City died Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Westview Care Center in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Monday, August 6th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City. Burial will be in Harrison Township Cemetery near Swea City.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 P.M., Sunday at Henry Olson Funeral Home in Swea City and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Swea City Ambulance Fund.
Earl Chandler Kvamsdale, the son of Ole and Alma Rosalie (Moline) Kvamsdale, was born July 1, 1923 on a farm northeast of Swea City. He graduated from Swea City High School in 1941 and helped his father on the farm. On April 6, 1945 he married Elsie Selberg at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Three weeks later Earl enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and farmed northeast of Swea City until his retirement in 1993. In 1994, Earl and Elsie moved into Swea City. In Earl's earlier years he enjoyed going to car races, traveling, playing basketball and being involved in politics. In later years he enjoyed reading, spending time with friends and family and going to the Senior Center for coffee.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in the community serving on the town council and the school board as a member and past president. He also belonged to the Swea City American Legion and VFW serving as past commander, was a Bank Plus board member and was a member of the Swea City Senior Citizens.
Earl is survived by his four daughters, Cheryl (David) Bartel of San Francisco, CA, Nancy (Marvin) Rayhons of Garner, Janet (Kent) Knorr of Swea City and Lori (Dale) Link of Blue Earth, MN; six grandchildren, Bonnie (Brian) Cataldo, Amy (Brian) Follmann, Nathan Bartel, Michael (Jamie) Knorr, Jenny (Michael) Vaske and Amanda Link (fiancé, Jeremy Rutter); great-grandchildren, Samuel, Ray and Reed Cataldo, Ethan, Abby and Jack Follmann, Jace and Maxton Knorr and Logan, Izabella and Isaac Vaske; a brother-in-law, Dr. Stanley Lindblom; and a sister-in-law, LaVonne Spivey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, July 15, 2010; his parents; sister, Lillian Lindblom; his step-mother, Marie Kvamsdale; a step-sister, Virginia Blomster; and two step-brothers, Wendell and Arvin Ditsworth.
