CLEAR LAKE - Edward E. Winkelman, age 82 of Clear Lake, died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at St. Johns Lutheran Church northeast of Garner with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial will be at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Garner.
Edward Elvin Winkelman, the son of Wilhelm and Meta (Ringleb) Winkelman was born April 26, 1928 at Plainfield, IA in Butler County. He was baptized June 10, 1928 and later confirmed at the Peace Reformed Church in Clarksville. Ed attended the rural schools in Butler and Bremer counties. From 1952-1960, he served his country in the U.S. Army in both Germany and France. On August 25, 1957, he married Phyllis L. Hanselman at St. John's Lutheran Church near Garner. They farmed south of Clear Lake until they retired from active farming in 1985 and moved into Clear Lake. Ed served on the Clear Lake Coop Elevator Board and was a Union Township trustee. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Winkelman of Clear Lake; 2 sons, Bill Winkelman (Barbara) of Johnston and their children, Thomas, Joseph and Paige; Jim Winkelman of Clear Lake, Joanne Winkelman of Clear Lake and their children, Wyatt, Walker and Reva; and a brother, Lorenz Winkelman of Waverly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters in infancy; two brothers, Erwin and Loyd and two sisters-in-law, Darlena and Virginia.
