Elaine M. Frein, 89, of Garner, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner with Rev. Brian Lund officiating. Burial will be at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Friday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church.
Elaine Maxine Frein, the daughter of Benjamin and Luvine (Schwartz) Goll, was born June 30, 1929 on a farm south of Garner. She attended rural school near her home and graduated from Garner High School in 1946. After high school she began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Garner. On June 24, 1949 she was married to Vernon “Dick” Frein in Garner. They lived in Garner where they raised their five children. Elaine also worked at Modern Cleaners in Garner and Winnebago Industries in Forest City where she retired from at the age of 60. After retiring, Elaine did custodial duties at Zion Church. She enjoyed baking for her grandchildren, coffeeing with friends, playing cards and spending time with her family at their cabin at Lost Island.
She was a lifetime member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church and a member of Zion Women’s Fellowship.
Elaine is survived by her five children, Terry (Kristie) Frein of North Port, FL, Debra (Tom) Kral of Garner, Mark (Danielle) Frein of Cedar Rapids, Cindy Bolie of Forest City and Brad (Shelly) Frein of Garner; 15 grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Mezzetti, Nathan (Dawn) Frein, Kelly (Amanda) Juhl, Kory (Becky) Juhl, Kristy Juhl (Derek Hegtvedt), Brady (Linda) Juhl, Lindsay (Brian) Shedek, Jordan Frein (Katie Shatek), Karlee (Sam) Peters, David Bolie, Britany Bolie, Ben (Kayla) Frein, Kacie (Cody) Stoos, Aaron (Amy) Lindsley and Scott (Heather) Lindsley; 28 great-grandchildren with two on the way; a brother, Dean (Doris) Goll of Garner; a sister, Carmen Wolf of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Dick, Dec. 14, 1996; and brother-in-law, Jim Wolf.
