DES MOINES – Elizabeth “Betty” D. Jones, 91, of Des Moines died Tuesday (May 22, 2007) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 P.M., Thursday, May 24th at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at Dunn’s Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.
Elizabeth “Betty” D. Jones, the daughter of Floyd and Janet (Peck) Fields, was born May 31, 1915 at Clarinda. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Des Moines. Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School and Drake University. At Drake she was active in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduation from Drake, she worked in the state chemist’s office in Des Moines. On October 19, 1940 she was married to Donald O. Jones in Des Moines. Betty and Don enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Family and friends will miss her generosity, strength and sense of humor. Betty’s interests included sewing, cooking and crafts. She enjoyed her bridge club and book club. Her travels took her to many foreign countries as well as domestic locations and she collected articles and pictures to record and document her experiences. Recently, Betty resided at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines until health concerns necessitated a moved to Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City to be closer to her daughter.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Des Moines Golf and Country Club.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Janet (Gus) Erickson of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Dr. Brad (Kristi) Erickson of West Des Moines and Brian Erickson (fiancée, Jenny Guddall) of Savannah, GA; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Steven Donald Jones; and daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Jones.
