Ellen V. Putney, 76, of Garner died Sunday, October 16, 2022, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with Deacon Regan Banks officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
Ellen Violet Putney, the daughter of Henry and Violet (Bouillon) Martin, was born March 13, 1946, in Charles City. She grew up in Carville and attended country school for the first 6 years and school at Nashua Fairgrounds for her 7th year. She graduated from Nashua High School 1964. On May 28, 1964, she met the man of her dreams, Joe Putney, Sr. and they were married 1 year and 1 day later on May 29, 1965, at Faith Bible Chapel in Charles City. Ellen and Joe lived in the Charles City area for many years where they raised their four wonderful children. In 1988 they moved to the state of Washington returning back to Iowa in 1991 to take care of her mother. In August of 2001 they moved back to Washington. Ellen loved the mountains and ocean. In 2003 they returned to Iowa and lived in Garner where Ellen worked as a security officer for IMT. Ellen’s family was very important to her. Her smiles was worth more than a million dollars and her favorite sayings were “yepper” and “you gotta love me.” She spoke her mind and loved helping other in need. Ellen will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Joseph, Sr.; two sons, Joseph Jr. (Janette) Putney of Garner, Jeremey (Shawnna) Putney of Arkansas; two daughters, Jodell Keys of Garner and Jessica (Mike) Tobin of Garner; five grandchildren, Shellby (Jeremy) Bradford, Nehemiah (Christina) Putney, Miranda Hall, Michael Bailey and Alora Rose Bailey; 8 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Martin; a sister, Karen (Roger) Jacobson; several very loved and cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jevon Littleton; two brothers, Cordell and Gerry Martin; three nephews, Jeff, Roy, Gary Martin, Jr.; and a niece, Marie Griffin.
