Freda M. Haag, 77, of Garner, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 at Concord Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. Fr. Paul Lippstock officiating. Burial will be at Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday, January 6th at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner with a Scriptural wake service at 4:30 P.M. followed by a rosary.
Freda Mae Haag, the daughter of Theodore and Minnie (Honken) Gerdes, was born August 29, 1942 in Buffalo Center. She attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1960. On July 2, 1960 she was married to John Haag. They lived in Clear Lake, Buffalo Center and Garner. John and Freda owned and operated several bars in the north Iowa area including the Lamplighter in Buffalo Center, Halfway in Duncan and the Watering Hole in Clear Lake. Freda also was employed at Marting Manufacturing in Britt and Winnebago Industries in Forest City until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Freda is survived by her five children, Julie (Alan) Quintus of Garner, Tom Haag (Holly Petersen) of Meservey, Bob (Katie) Haag of Ventura, Sue Thomas and Terry Haag of Swaledale; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, John Gerdes of Blue Earth, MN; a sister, Betty Johnston of Blue Earth, MN;a sister-in-law, Marian Gerdes of Marshalltown; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2013; and brothers, Raymond and Harold Gerdes.
