Garret D. Hauptmann, 58, of Thompson, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.
Garret Donald Hauptmann, the son of Donald and Sharlene (Martin) Hauptmann, was born May 6, 1966, in Britt. He graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1985. Following high school, Garret worked at Fiber Body in Swea City for two years. He lived in Thompson and was employed at Winnebago Industries in Forest City as a cabinet maker in the oak assembly unit until his cancer diagnosis in 2024. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Garret is survived by his mother, Sharlene Jaspersen of Clear Lake; siblings, Meredith (Marge) Hauptmann of Onley, MD, Margaret Kenney of Garner, Sidney (Mary) Hauptmann of Algona, Marie (Don) Bedford of Clear Lake and Eldon (Jennifer) Hauptmann of Garner; a sister-in-law, Laureen Hauptmann of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Hauptmann; step-father, Earl Jaspersen; brother, Damon Hauptmann; nephew, Joseph Kenney; and great niece, Mila Hanson.
