Gene P. Vajgert

Gene P. Vajgert, 78, of Leland, died on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, IA.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30 PM Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Word of Faith Dominion Church, 45005 210th Ave., Lake Mills, IA with Pastor Doug Domokos and Pastor Steve Johnson officiating.

Inurnment of cremains will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Gene Vajgert memorial fund.

Gene P. Vajgert was born on April 28, 1939 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Donald and Grace Lee Vajgert.

Gene was remarried to Elizabeth Anne Buren after the death of his first wife on February 28, 1999 at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City. Gene worked at Larson Window and Door in Lake Mills for many years. He later worked at Bill’s Family Foods in Forest City as a baker for many years, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed.

Gene was a pet lover, he loved his cats and also his Doxen dog, Roberta. Gene and his wife Liz enjoyed traveling to Austin, Texas through the years to visit his mother. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gene is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Vajgert of Leland; brother, Gordon Vajgert of Mason City; mother, Grace Lee of Austin, TX; sister-in-laws, Francisca Vajgert of Dripping Springs, TX and Raye Vajgert of Austin, TX; daughter, Mary Buren (Brian Eden) of Joice, Iowa; son, Paul Strehlow and wife of Lawton, OK and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; first wife, Jean Marie Vajgert and two brothers, George and Gary Vajgert.
