Geraldine Ruth Monson

Geraldine Ruth Monson, 91, of Moravia, formerly of rural Forest City, died Monday, December 12, 2016 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at the 11:00 A.M., Monday December 19, 2016 at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, 40050 210th Ave., Lake Mills, Iowa with the Pastor Bill Peters officiating

Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services on Monday at the church.

Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are given to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or Care Initiatives Hospice-4 South Main St., Albia, Iowa 52531.

Geraldine Ruth Monson was born in rural Miller, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Nonnweiler) Johnson. She attended school in Hayfield, Iowa. She was married to Glen Monson on May 30, 1942 in Forest City, Iowa, to this union, four children were born. Glen and Geraldine moved to the their farm in Mt. Valley Township west of Forest City in 1942 and it is still in the family name. She took pride in her home and taking care of her family. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidering, and reading. She was a long-time member of the Winnebago Lutheran Church and she was active in her ladies circle. Family was very important to Geraldine and she cherished the time she spent with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Lynn (Carol) Monson of Moravia, Monty Monson of Waianae, Hawaii and Renea Wubben of Moravia, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Betty Monson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Travis (Adam) Cerling of Apple Valley, MN, Michelle Weise of Albuquerque, NM, Christopher (Abby) Monson of Inner Grove Heights, MN, Kari (Adam) Janecek of Milwaukee, WI, Kelly (Levi) Hoyt of Lakeville, MN, Rachel (Boe) Narveson, Michelle (Troy) Bratland of Sioux Falls, SD and Brent (Daphne) Monson of Sioux Falls, SD, Shaun (Angela) Wubben and Stephanie Varese both of Moravia, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Achilles, Phoenix, Bryce Weise, Drea Monson, Aiden, Landon and Brynn Narveson, Logan and Sophia Hoyt, Zachary, Joshua and Meghan Bratland, Charlotte Monson, Ivy and Eva Wubben and Mateo and Stephanie Varese; sister-in-law, June Monson of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Monson; son, Barry Monson; and great-granddaughter, Kadence Hoyt; siblings, Dorothy Jefson, Iva Myklestad, Arlene Clark and a brother and sister in infancy.
