BRITT - Gladys I. Alphs, 83, of Britt died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 20th at the Woden Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 P.M., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Woden Christian Reformed Church.

Gladys Irene Alphs, daughter of Fred and Trienetta (Huisinga) Redenius, was born June 7, 1929 in rural Britt, Iowa. She graduated from Britt High School in 1947. She obtained her teacher's training certificate and taught in the Orthel Township country schools. Gladys married Ivan Adrian Alphs on October 19, 1948 at the Woden Christian Reformed Church. They farmed northeast of Wesley until their retirement in 2001 when they moved to a home in Britt. Gladys' greatest love was that for her husband, children and grandchildren. Gladys enjoyed gardening and caring for her many flowers. She also delighted in visiting with extended family and friends and was an avid storyteller.

Gladys loved the Lord and was an active member of the Woden Christian Reformed Church all her life. She taught Sunday school there for several years.

She is survived by her three children, Larry (Keiko) Alphs of Princeton, NJ and their three children Hannah Alphs Jackson (Matthew Jackson), Sarah (fiancé, Natalino Mwenda) and Aya, Marvin Alphs of Mason City and Duane (Mary) Alphs and their three children, Amanda, Christina and Brian, all of Haymarket, VA; three sisters, Arlene (Kenneth) Vanden Hoek of Britt, Elaine (Roger) Lillo of Buffalo, MN and Dorothy Eshuis of Rock Valley, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan on February 27, 2002; her brother, Alfred Redenius; and her sister, Marjorie Stecker.
