GARNER – Gordon Haes, 84, of Garner died Tuesday (October 2, 2007) at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Monday, October 8, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Dale Glawatz as officiant. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner.

Gordon Marlen Haes, the son of Benjamin and Ida (Lenz) Haes was born April 13, 1923 in Garner. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He graduated from Garner High School in 1940. On February 7, 1942, he married Shirley Maxine Dakken at Chillicothe, Missouri. Gordon served his country in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborn Ordinance Division. He was transferred to the infantry division and was then stationed in the European Theater, primarily in Germany, where he received the Purple Heart. Gordon had served in the Garner Ceremonial Unit for over 45 years. He had worked at Goodrich & Bethke, was a partner with Ray Bunkofske in the Farmer’s Produce and also worked at Iowa Mold & Tooling, retiring at age 65. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, helping others, Western movies and books, Louis L’Amour, Emeril Lagasse (food cooking shows) dogs and birds. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, Shirley, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a God-father to eight children. Gordon lived his entire life in Garner, living only two blocks from his place of birth. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Garner VFW Post #5515, and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Haes of Garner; his four children, Marlen “Mick” Haes and his wife Kathy, of Minneapolis, MN, Margo Greiman of Windsor, CO, Marsha Johnson and her husband, Marion, of Garner and Mareen Nedved of Forest City; 18 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Irene Maryter; his son-in-law, Gary Greiman; a granddaughter, Jennifer Nedved and 2 great grandchildren, Tate and McCoy Nedved.
