Hazel T. Severson

CLEAR LAKE - Hazel T. Severson, age 95, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Clear Lake Christian Church in Clear Lake, Iowa with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Visitation will be held an hour and a half prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Hazel T. Severson was born in Forest City, Iowa on September 12, 1918, the daughter of Osmund and Ovedia (Gjovik) Heimdal. She grew up on a farm near Forest City and attended country school near her home.

On February 25, 1939, she was united in marriage to Fred Severson. The couple made their home in Forest City and raised three daughters; Lois, Helen and Mary.

Hazel enjoyed being part of her church. She loved gardening and making lefsa for the holidays. She looked forward to going fishing with her family and friends each year. For several seasons she spent the winter months in Texas and Arkansas. She also loved her trips to China, Hawaii and Israel.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lois (Lowell) Emrud of Dodge Center, MN; son-in-law Wayne Smith of Clear Lake, MN; son-in-law Sid (Shirley) Jordahl of Rochester, MN, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Fred; two daughters, Mary Jordahl and Helen Smith; her brothers, Edwin Heimdal, Sam Heimdal, Alfred Heimdal and Otis Heimdal; and a sister, Jennie Burrel.
