LELAND - Herbert Jay Hanson, age 55 of Leland, died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, after months of failing health.

Jay was cremated, according to his wishes.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM on Monday, September 24, 2012 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home - 505 N. Clark St - Forest City followed by a Prayer Service with Pastor Thomas Rank of Center Evangelical Lutheran Church of rural Lake Mills officiating.

Inurnment will be at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Lake Mills, following the Prayer Service.

Herbert 'Jay' Hanson, son of Robert 'Bob' and Ilene (Storby) Hanson, was born on December 20, 1956 in Albert Lea, MN. Jay was baptized and confirmed at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills where he has been a life long member. He attended school in Lake Mills and graduated in the class of 1975. He then attended college at Iowa State, Mankato State and graduated from NIACC and Buena Vista. Jay lived and worked in Hampton, IA, Texas, Ottumwa, IA and most recently had worked at Citibank in Sioux Falls, SD until his health began to fail and was unable to continue working.

Jay enjoyed watching all sports, especially the March Madness part of college basketball. Some of his favorite teams included Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Gophers and Iowa State Cyclones. He also liked cooking, gardening, computers, movies and Jeopardy.

Jay is survived by his parents, Bob and Ilene Hanson of Leland; sister, Robyn (Dennis) Countryman of Titonka; niece, Katie Countryman (Justin Walk) of Kanawha; nephew, Tony Countryman (Sara Cook) of Lakota; great-nephew, Braden Barg of Kanawha; great-niece, Karlie Countryman of Lakota, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Lenore Hanson, Irving Storby and Minerva Linde.
