FOREST CITY -- Herman Harms, age 78 of Forest City, died Sunday, August 26, 2007 in Forest City.
Funeral service will be Thursday, August 30, at 10:30 AM at Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Pastor Barb Spaulding officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, August 29 at the funeral home and an hour prior to service.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City with Garner VFW Post 5515 in charge of military rites.
Herman Harms was born in Latimer, Iowa on August 19, 1929, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steanus Harms. He received his early education in Latimer. As a young man of nearly 17 years, he joined the US Air Force, completing his high school education there.
He served in the Air Force for 21 years. He married Zelma Banks on October 16, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas. The couple traveled the country with Herman's military postings. He retired from the service in 1961.
The couple made their home in Garner, Iowa where he worked for the Farmers Coop. In 1978 the family moved to Forest City and Herman worked at the Forester Trailer Factory until retiring. Herman was a member of the VFW in Garner and the American Legion in Forest City.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and wood-working.
Herman is survived by his wife, Zelma of Forest City, daughter Alice (Larry) Lisco of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandsons Gregg Harms and Joe Gibbs Jr., three great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents and 16 brothers and sisters.
