LAKE MILLS - Inez E. Heimdal, age 90, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 7, 2012 at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills, Iowa with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
Inez was born November 24, 1921 to Selmer and Grace Johnson in Geneva, MN. She grew up in Forest City, IA and graduated from Forest City High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked in several homes in Winnebago county as a homemaker; where she met Alfred Heimdal. Inez and Alfred were united by marriage on August 16, 1941. The couple proceeded to spend most of their married lives in Winnebago County farming and raising eight children. In 1991, the couple relocated to Forest City, IA; where they spent their last years together until Alfred passed away in 1994. Inez continued to spend the next decade in Forest City, spending time with family and friends before residing her remaining five years at Lake Mills Care Center. Inez was a very talented and independent person. Among many of her talents were: playing violin at a young age; loving to sew and creating her own patterns; her love of gardening; many hours of bargain shopping; and gift of gab being among the most memorable talent of all. She spent much of her life working at several jobs including: Deluxe, County Home, and devoted the last 30 years at Fleetguard retiring at the age of 67. She also utilized her time being a 4-H leader for Mt. Valley Township and an active member of Winnebago Luthern Church participating in several church groups.
She is survived by her children: Sonja Petersen of Lake Mills, IA; Dennis and Marilyn Heimdal of Farmersburg, IA; Noel and Pam Heimdal of Rockwell City, IA; Ilene and Bill Zieser of Leland, IA; Arlyn and Linda Heimdal of Cheney, WA; Mylan and Ana Heimdal of Houston, TX and daughter-in-law, Marie Heimdal of Canton, SD; Sisters: Lana Dewey of Minneapolis,MN and Idelle Peterson of Boudon, MO; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Leanne Grace; husband, Alfred Heimdal; son-in-law, Ralph Petersen; brother, Quintin Johnson; son, Richard Heimdal and grandson, Troy Warner.
