Jackie was born October 25th, 1942 to Elmer and Nelia (Oftedahl) Jensen in Crystal Lake, Iowa. She was the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Robert Dean Appelhons on June 23, 1962 and celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage together as of last June.
Jackie worked as a “soda jerk” in her mother’s store in Crystal Lake with no pay! Then went to beauty school and enjoyed working with people as a hair dresser at the Forester Salon in Forest City for many years. She then turned her focus to raising her three daughters and helping her husband with his painting business.
Jackie spent much of her time with family and friends; entertaining in her home, camping in Crystal Lake, and exploring various states. Jackie’s family history was very important to her, which she enjoyed sharing with others. She loved her kitties, birds, flowers and crossword puzzles. Her most enjoyable hobby was gathering photos to create an abundance of albums and scrapbooks.
She had a generous heart and a giving soul. Multiple charities were recipients of her monetary support and love. These charities include, but are not limited to, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Boys Town – dedicated to caring for children and families, and Habitat for Humanity.
Jackie is survived by her husband Robert; three daughters, Suzanne (Brian) Lampe of Windsor, CO, Julie (Tom) Dickinson of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennifer (Jon) Mericle of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, James Appelhons, Amber (Garrett) Burton, Chelsie Eckels, Kayla (Keenan) Shotts, Jacob Mericle, Jayce Mericle; great-grandchildren, Charlize Eckels, Jamesen Diehl, Cash Burton; sister-in-law, Judy (Cecil) Reyerson of Clear Lake, IA and sister-in-law, Jeanne (Wayne) Tollagson of Crystal Lake, IA and countless loving family and friends.
