GARNER - Jeanne A. Schroeder, 86, of Garner died Friday (November 27, 2009) at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner with Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Tuesday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.


Jeanne Ardith Schroeder, the daughter of John and Lillian (Abele) Griffen, was born June 17, 1923 on a farm southwest of Garner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1941. On September 27, 1941, she was married to John Schroeder at her parent's farm near Garner. They lived southwest of Garner until 1951, when they moved to a farm north of Garner. Jeanne was employed at North Iowa Grain Equipment as a bookkeeper from 1963 until her retirement in 2003. She also was an active Avon sales representative for a number of years. In March of 2005, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and singing.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church where she was active in UPW, sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school and was a Presbyterian Camp Counselor and LOGOS teacher. Jeanne also belonged to Sweet Adelines , Ellington Township Birthday Club, Clear Lake Christian Women's Luncheon and Bible study and was a 20-gallon plus blood donor to the American Red Cross.

Jeanne is survived by her children, Ed (Kathy) Schroeder of Garner, John (Carol) Schroeder of Colorado Springs, CO, Perry (Sandra) Schroeder of Garner, Laurel Lea (Dan) Calvert of Garner, Carolyn (Andrew) Wigglesworth of Colorado Springs, CO, Lyndon (Elaine) Schroeder of Urbandale and Tracy (Connie) Schroeder of Forest City; eighteen grandchildren, Brent, Bryan, Tammy and Scott Schroeder, Larry and Jerry Schroeder, Jeff Schroeder, Kirstin Bourke, Hanni Schroeder, Sally Westphal, Lilly Calvert, Kelly Hawley, Jennifer Mitchell, Abby Wigglesworth, Mason and Reid Schroeder and Shelby and Colton Schroeder; fourteen great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; a sister, Betty (Harlan) Carolus of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Elmer; and brothers, Fred and Leon Griffen.
