BRITT - James "Jim" M. Ryburn, Jr., 81, of Britt died Friday (January 2, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M., Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

James Monroe Ryburn, Jr., the son of James and Emma (Hinrich) Ryburn, was born October 5, 1927, at Rockwell. He graduated from Rockwell High School in 1945 and served his country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. On May 22, 1949, he married Shirley Ann Hoover at Stilson. They farmed northwest of Britt until 1965 when they moved into Britt. Jim had worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City and was the caretaker at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt for a time. Jim also drove school bus for West Hancock School District and was a driver for the Hancock County Transit Services. Jim loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed working with wood, playing 65, fishing, gardening and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, the Britt American Legion and the I.O.O.F. Lodge.

Jim is survived by his five children and their families, Robert Ryburn of Texas and his twin daughters, Maribell and Frances both of Texas, Cindy (Ted) Kopacek of Maple Grove, MN and their daughter, Heidi Kopacek of Minneapolis, MN, Mark Ryburn of Bloomington, MN and his daughter, Desirae (Michael) Lowell of Forest City and their two children, Nora and Michael, Christy (Darryl) Dehn of Maple Grove, MN and their two sons, A.J. and Tyler both at home; and Chad (Christi) Ryburn of New Prague, MN and their six children, Julianna, James, Rebecca, Matthew, Savannah and Luke all at home; a sister, Marjorie Sturges of Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Jackie (Paul) MacVey of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, Jan. 8, 2006; his parents; a brother, Bill Ryburn; and a sister, Ruth Ryburn.
