John A. Wenthold, 80, of Hayfield, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at his home.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2025, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Fr. Andrew Marr officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
John Alfred Wenthold, the son of Leo and Marie (Huber) Wenthold, was born on January 2, 1945, in West Union. He attended catholic school through10th grade and graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco in 1963. John served his country during Vietnam in the U.S. Army for four years. On June 6, 1969, he married Colleen McLain at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah. They made their home in Lime Springs, Garner and in 1973, moved to their home in Hayfield. John had worked at Circle H Implement in Garner before making a career change and working at Woden Lumber Company where he retired from in 2016 after 40 years of dedicated employment. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, polka dancing, and going to tractor and car shows.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner.
John is survived by his son, Chuck (Ann) Wenthold of Jefferson; three siblings, Merle (Donna) Wenthold of Cresco, Verna (Keith) Lansing of Sumner, and Neil (Ruth) Wenthold of Cresco; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Colleen, in 2009; and his parents.
