Joyce A. Sankey

BRITT – Joyce A. Sankey, 86, of Britt died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 31st at First Lutheran Church in Britt with Rev. William Rosin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Britt.

Joyce Ann Sankey, the daughter of Anthony and Oma (Downs) Hildman, was born July 7, 1930 in Algona. She grew up in Wesley where she attended high school. On September 4, 1948, she was married to Harold Sankey at First Lutheran Church in Britt. They lived on an acreage west of Britt where they raised their seven children. Joyce was a homemaker for most of her life. She sorted corn in the fall for Pioneer after all the kids had graduated and she looked forward to it every year. Joyce was active as a 4-H mom when the two girls were growing up. She shared her duties with the neighbors running kids here and there. She also ran errands for Sankey Sand and Gravel for her in-laws and husband. She was an avid Britt/West Hancock football and basketball fan for many years. In 1988, Harold and Joyce moved into Britt. Joyce enjoyed sewing, quilting and having coffee with the ladies.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, FLCW and belonged to the Do-Day quilting group.

Joyce is survived by her children, Scott (Lisa) Sankey of Haw River, NC, Joel Sankey of Britt, Greg Sankey (significant other, Becky Schwieger) of Clear Lake, Brian (Alana) Sankey of Waterloo and Sondra (David) Lampe of Britt; sixteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Glenda) Hildman of Northwood; a sister-in-law, Ruth Hildman of White Bear Lake, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in December of 1997; son, Stephen Sankey in 1967; daughter, Elizabeth Sankey in 1978; a sister, Lois Trimble; and two brothers, Larry and Kenny Hildman.
