June Monson

June Monson, 91, of Forest City, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Country Meadow Place Assisted Living in Mason City, surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 28, 2018, at Pilot Knob Lutheran Church with Pastor Bob Snitzer officiating.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa 50436.

Burial of cremains will be in the church’s cemetery.

Hazel June Monson was born June 25, 1927, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Wilson “Bill” and Rhoda (Hoveland) Parsons. She graduated from Mason City High School and worked as a salesperson for Damons Department Store. On September 20, 1946, she married Earl Monson at the St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Ellington Township, rural Forest City, where they raised their family. June retired from Winnebago Industries after many years of employment.

Following retirement, June loved quilting, being involved in church activities, traveling with family, volunteering with RSVP and Hospice of North Iowa. June also enjoyed golfing with Earl. She loved the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

June is survived by her four daughters, Cheryl and Bill Thompson of Mason City, LaDonna Underwood of Wapello, Marilyn and Michael Thornburg of Mt. Pleasant and Kimberly and Kevin Jessen of Joice; grandchildren, Billie (Rod) Keith, Tommie Jo (Eric) Miller, Hailey (Jamie) Cox, Emily (Brian) Duke, Kristopher (Elizabeth) Thornburg, Nicholas Thornburg (Jill Moeller), and Julia Jessen (Alan Schaefer); thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Marge Gilbertson of Apple Valley, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl LeRoy Monson; brother, Phillip Dean Parsons; sister, Viola Peterson and many beloved brothers and sisters in law.
