FOREST CITY - Larry D. Nerdig, 72, of Forest City died Sunday (March 6, 2011) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark Street in Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.

Larry Nerdig was born on March 19, 1938 to August and Fern Nerdig on a farm near Buffalo Center. He attended school at Rake High School. Larry was united in marriage to Sharon Adams on May 8, 1959. Larry worked at Winnebago Industries as a Supervisor in Shipout retiring in 2000 after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a sergeant of the Forest City Police Reserves for 10 years. Larry was ranked in the top 5 of the North Iowa modified stock car race circuit, driving car #44 in the early 1960's. Larry was most proud of his children and grandchildren. They were his favorite topic of conversation. He was an avid gardener and golfer. He took great pleasure in growing cucumbers and tomatoes in his garden. Golfing with his friends and visiting his children and grandchildren was among his favorite activities.

Larry is survived by his wife Sharon of 52 years; his two children, Cristi Olson and her husband, David, of Hummelstown, PA and Michael Nerdig and his wife, Amy, of Shelbyville, KY; three grandchildren, Michael Olson, Matthew Nerdig and Sarah Nerdig; two brothers, Dale Nerdig and his wife, Elaine, of Forest City and Harvey Nerdig and his wife, Rosie, of Buffalo Center; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and a sister, Katherine.

The family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Forest City United Methodist Church Elevator Fund.
