GARNER – Laura L. Boehnke, 53, of Garner died Monday, July 24, 2017 at her home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 29th at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner with Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner and will resume one hour prior to services at the church.
Laura Lynn Boehnke, the daughter of Gaylord and Rose (Leith) Nowack, was born September 16, 1963 at Cedar Falls. She graduated from Denver High School in 1982. Laura continued her education at Iowa State University in Ames and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education. On June 13, 1987, she was married to William R. Boehnke at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. They lived in Ventura for a few years before moving to Garner where they raised their four sons. Laura worked at home for Meredith Magazine as a quilt tester. She enjoyed spending time with her family, quilting, hand work, flowers, music and playing cards.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and was church organist.
Laura is survived by her husband, Bill of Garner; four sons, Nathan of Garner, Michael (Melody) and their son, Elias, of Chicago, IL, Aaron of Lovilia and John at home; her parents, Gaylord and Rose Nowack of Denver; four sisters, Gayle (Chuck) Rector of Denver, Linda (Larry) Flaharty of Terril, Pam (Edward) Clemens of Sartell, MN and Carrie (Scott) Carey of Waterloo; parents-in-law, Carrol and Dolores Boehnke of Garner; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Caroline (Dr. Tom) Becker of Des Moines and Heather (Bob) Baumgard of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
