LaVera L. Halverson, 89, of Garner died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in Forest City.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Wednesday, August 1st at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with Rev. Mark Larson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
LaVera LuAnn Halverson, the daughter of Otto Bernhard and Sadie Amalia (Schlawin) Lemke, was born December 10, 1928 on a farm south of Duncan. She attended the rural schools of Liberty Township and graduated from Garner High School in 1947. On September 29, 1947 she was married to Franklin L. Halverson at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner. They farmed in the Miller area until 1968. In 1984, they moved into Garner. LaVera enjoyed arts and crafts, flower gardening and canning.
She was a member of Peace Reformed Church where she was a longtime member of Women’s Missionary and a Sunday school and Bible school teacher.
LaVera is survived by her two children, Mike (Kerry) Halverson of Garner and Renita Ray of Chaska, MN; six grandchildren, Ryan (Jana) Bakke, Rachel (Trent) Holmberg, Steven (Morgan) Halverson, Kate (Kaleb) Pergande, Jesse (Samantha) Ray and Matthew Ray; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Verla (Ray) Maynard of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters-in-law, Betty Halverson of Garner and Norma Hammond of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, April 1, 1991; grandson, Nathaniel Ray; and a sister, Darlene (Ray) Hrubes.
