GARNER – Lois M. Bauer, 84, of Garner died Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 21st at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Monday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a VFW Auxiliary service at 7 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Lois Mae Bauer, the daughter of Robert and Alta (Slawson) Pigman, was born August 1, 1930 in Hayfield. She attended rural school in Madison Township, Britt Community Schools, and graduated from Moorland High School in 1949. After high school, she moved back to Britt where she met her future husband Ewald “Pete” Bauer. The couple was united in marriage on April 21, 1951 in Austin, Minnesota. They lived in Tripoli and in several towns in central Iowa, until they moved to Garner in 1967. Lois owned and operated Lois’s Truck Stop from 1971 to 1988. She also worked at Concord Care Center until her retirement. Lois enjoyed quilting, canoeing, gardening and camping.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML and was a lifelong member of the Garner VFW Auxiliary.
Lois is survived by her children, Hal (Cindy) Bauer of Kanawha, Janelle Smith (Lee White) of Garner, Connie Bauer of Garner, Dallas Bauer of Garner, Dean Bauer of Forest City and Mark Bauer of Garner; daughter in-law, Julie Beers of Crystal Lake; sister in-law, Norma Heiser of Waverly; seventeen grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Bauer; son, Duane Pigman; son in-law, Mark Schwem; two sisters, Doris Montgomery and Marilee Strasser; and brother, Billie Pigman.
