FOREST CITY – Lorraine M. Nyhus, 98, of Forest City died Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Chuck Layton officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Lorraine Mary Nyhus, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Munson) Nyhus was born January 18, 1917 in Forest City. She graduated from Forest City High School, Waldorf College and Drake University. Lorraine began teaching in country school and after ten years started teaching in the Ventura community schools. She retired from teaching after working there for 39 years. She enjoyed traveling with her sister Ruth, flowers and gardening, shopping, the outdoors, maintaining her farm and spending time with her family and friends.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Winnebago Retired Teachers, and a former member of the Lioness Club.
Lorraine is survived by her five nieces, Jane Benson of Forest City, Kathy Fick of Luverne, Minnesota, JoAnn Kellis of Des Moines, Nancy Swenson of Forest City, and Jean Pederson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harvey and Thomas Nyhus; sisters Edna Bakken, Helen Gustafson and Ruth Nyhus; and a nephew Ron Bakken.
