FOREST CITY - Lucille Kuhlers, 89, of Forest City died Saturday (December 26, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City.



Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at the Meservey Cemetery in Meservey, Iowa.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, December 29th at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.



Lucille Kuhlers was born on June 30, 1920 in rural Hancock County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Louise (Jahnke) Waddingham. She received her education in rural schools near her home.





She was united in marriage to Harm Dirks on January 26, 1939. To this union two sons and three daughters were born. Lucille helped her husband on the farm and cared for her family. Harm passed away on October 19, 1974.





Lucille worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for seven and a half years. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed baking and treasured time spent with her family. She loved doing handwork and crocheted doilies, tablecloths and afghans for family and friends.





She married George Kuhlers on August 19, 1977. The couple made their home in Meservey, Iowa until George passed away on September 1, 1985. Lucille moved to Forest City in January of 1987 and for the last several years has resided at Forest Plaza Assisted Living. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.





Lucille is survived by five children: Donald (Joyce) Dirks of Erie, CO; Lois Vanness of Massilon, OH; Gary (Jackie) Dirks of Onalaska, WI; Patricia Tendall of Forest City and Sandra (Mark) Haugen of Forest City. Also surviving are three step-children: Janice (Cleon) Prestholt of Owasso, OK; Melva Dunton of West Des Moines, IA; Sharon (LaVurne) Josten of Forest City, 11 grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren and nine step-great-great-grandchildren.





She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, four brothers and two sisters.
