Lydia helped her family on the farm and also took care of a sister who was disabled. On October 6, 1926 she married William Victor Schneider at the family farm south of Garner. They farmed east of Garner for 2 years, 11 years southeast of Garner and then purchased their own farm south of Garner. In 1950, they moved to Clear Lake in a home William built for Lydia. In 1957, they moved to Tucson, AZ for health reasons. After her husband’s death in 1973, Lydia stayed in Tucson where she worked as a LPN, caring for people in their own homes. Later, she worked as a receptionist at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Tucson. Due to ill health, she moved to Garner to be near her family. She enjoyed making quilts from donated fabrics which she supplied for missions in Mexico. She also baked countless cookies, which she sent along with the quilts.
