He enjoyed helping foreign students come to the United States to further their education and many were able to get their advanced degrees. His home was always open to visitors from foreign countries to stay at his home. Lyle was interested in genealogy and took several trips to Norway to visit with relatives and trace the family history. He made a book for each side of his father and mother and was planning to update it.
