FOREST CITY - Mae Riherd, 90, of Forest City, passed away peacefully Friday, October 18, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 21, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Forest City, with Pastor Charles Layton officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Crystal Lake, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 PM, Sunday, October 20th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City and continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Mae Maxine Riherd was born on May 2, 1923 in Graettinger, IA, the daughter of Harry and Vera (Squibb) McColloch. As a young child, she moved with her family to Forest City, where she received her education and graduated from Forest City High School.
In October 1945 she was united in marriage to Wendell (Spinner) Riherd. The couple made their home in Forest City their entire married lives.
Mae was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the most important thing in her life, and she treasured the time spent with them. She loved following the activities of her grand and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and canning and always had a garden. She loved company...her door was always open. Mae was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in circle.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Nancy Harms of Forest City; daughter-in-law, Sandy Hugelen of Forest City; granddaughter Beth (Terry) Galli of Kanawha; grandson, John (Ali) Riherd of Parkersburg, IA; granddaughter, Jodi (Travis) Washek of Minnetonka, MN; great-grandchildren, AJ, Ethan and Cadyn, Kobe, Kale and Kendall, and Tyler and Melanie; three sisters, Wilma (Marlin) Lea of Paso Robles, CA, Betty Nelson of Britt, IA, Jackie (Marvin) Monson of Forest City; brother, Warren "Junior" McColloch of Emmons, MN; sisters-in-law, Myrt McColloch of Forest City and Deanna McColloch of Forest City; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell; son, Terry; three sisters, Leotha George, Gwenyth Hansen and Sandy Murphy; brothers, Chester and Lester McColloch and Dale McColloch; a brother and a sister in infancy.
